As 2011 draws to a close, Shortfire Press celebrates a year since we launched. We've published some amazing stories, from award-winning writers to complete debuts, from the imagined dystopian future to the South of France, via the docks of Newcastle, to mention just a few. We've interviewed some of our heroes, and we have been interviewed too! And we've been lauded in the Independent as the iTunes of the written word, mentioned in The Times as part of a new generation of publishers doing exciting things with the short story. We've been to Bristol, and Brighton to talk about the short story. We've cheered our authors on at Literary Death Match. We've been on panels with such luminaries as Ali Smith, Clare Wigfall and Adma Marek ( we still can't quite believe it!). We've launched a revolutionary app called Papercut, which helped change the way we read. It's been quite a year, all told! And in that year, the landscape for short stories has changed. Even the big publishers have got in on the act. We're proud to have been part of that shift, proud to have brought some amazing short stories to you, and we're looking forward to doing amazing things in 2012. So, thank you to all our readers, our authors, our interviewees, and everyone who has supported us over the past year. Without you all it couldn't have happened. And long live the short story!
